The Marauder Men and Women's cross-country teams participated in the Western State Preview, hosted by LA Mission College, on the campus of Pierce College. The preview allows the conference
school to get a look at the championship course and gain some valuable competitive experience for the 2023 season. The women's team placed 5th overall out of the 12 teams and is currently in a SOCAL qualifying position (top 7 advance from the WSC).
Regina Kiminya was the top finisher for the Lady Marauders, coming into the chute 25th (out of 50). She was followed by Rosa Aquiano, Wynter Wilson, Anahi Machado, and Brianna Dominguez.
In the men's 4-mile race, Booby Reynoso scored first placing
33 rd (out of 94). Finishing behind Reynoso were Tim Moreno, Kai Smithley (who moved up to 3rd man after a 5th man spot a week ago), Jesus Flores, Joe Lopez, Joseph Santiago, and Alan Arriaga. The men's team finished in the 8th position but are only 13 points from the 7th placed squad. "The course ran really slow today, but Kiminya and Aquiano ran PRs for the season, which was a bonus," commented head coach Tony Veney. "What we took from the meet was another opportunity to see the teams we have to beat in order to qualify for the postseason."
The Marauders do not return to action until October 21st, when they travel to Arroyo Vista Park for the WSC Cross Country Finals (hosted by Moorpark College). The women's 5k starts at 1 pm, while the men's 4-mile race will follow at 2 pm.
