DUNCAN, VENTURA, WEBB IMPRESSIVE IN BAKERSFIELD
BAKERSFIELD - Jasmane Duncan ran a personal best 58.74 in the 400 to take home first place Saturday afternoon at the Bakersfield Relays at Bakersfield College.
Duncan bested her previous mark of 58.93 only a week ago at the AVC Invitational at Marauder Stadium, where she knocked more than a second off her previous best time at that meet.
Duncan cruised to the victory and defeated El Camino's Victoria Portor (1:01.50) by nearly three seconds. Duncan (26.05) was also second in the 200 behind Sierra Peterson of El Camino who crossed the tape in 25.43.
AVC's Destiny Ventura had an easy time in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:08.25. Bakersfield's Diamond Thompson was second in 1:09.68.
Robyn Webb was first in the hammer throw (117-05), second in the shot put (31-01.00) and second in the discus (98-01).
Carolina Gonzalez finished second in the 1500 behind Glendale's Fabiola Naranjo. Naranjo won the race in 5:04.89. Gonzalez finished in 5:08.14 with a personal best and knocked more than six seconds off her season best.
El Camino easily won the meet with 166 total points, followed by College of the Canyons (108), Bakersfield (87) and AVC was fourth with 76 points.
