MARAUDER WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD TEAM IMPRESSIVE IN OPENING MEET
BAKERSFIELD - The Marauder women's track and field team had a good showing in the opening meet of the season at Bakersfield College.
The Marauder women captured three first places in the meet including the 400, long jump and 4x400 relay.
Jasmane Duncan took home the 400 with a time of 1:02.17. Duncan finished a couple of meters ahead of second place finisher, Naomi Carrillo of Moorpark who finished at 1:02.58. Duncan was also second in the 200 at 27.26, behind College of the Canyons' Jasmine Hall (26.73).
Cherice Thomas was respectable in both the 100 and 200. Thomas finished with times of 13.56 and 28.82, finishing seventh and sixth respectively. Thomas finished with two first places in both the long jump (17-00.75) and was third leg on the winning 4x400 relay team with Duncan, Jailene Martinez and Destiny Ventura.
Martinez was eighth in the 400 (1:09.07) and Ventura finished fourth in the 100 hurdles (18.52) and second in the 400 hurdles (1:13.24) not far behind Bakersfield's Diamond Thompson who won the race in 1:12.96.
Robyn Webb was second in the hammer tossing 102-08 behind Ventura's Alyssa Carrillo (107-00). Webb was 11th in the discus (81-02) and 12th in the shot with a put of 28-07.00. Teammate Anna-Helene Augusta was third in the hammer (100-03) behind Webb and seventh in the discus (88-09).
The Marauders took home fourth place overall with 73 points, behind College of the Canyons (134), Moorpak (102) and Bakersfield (86).
