The Marauders wrapped up regular season play and five matches in five days with a rare doubleheader vs. Glendale College. The doubleheader was necessary due to postponement caused by snow and rain earlier this year. Although the recent success of some individuals continued, AVC lost both matches losing 7-2 in the first and 5-2 in the second, which was shortened due to Glendale securing the five victories necessary for the win after singles play and completion of the first doubles match. Viktoriia Belonogova lost her first singles match 6-4, 6-0 and in her second match, after winning the first set 6-1, she fought hard but lost the second set 6-4 and the third set 7-5.
Becca Jaimes played well in her first match winning 6-2, 6-0 winning 12 consecutive games. Jaimes moved to the #1 singles spot for the second match where she lost 6-0 6-1.
Erica Garcia lost both matches 6-3, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-2. Mary Flint- Herrera swept her two matches 6-3, 6-4 and 6-3, 6-0. Natalie Pinzon lost 6-2, 6-3 and 6-0, 6-2 while Marbella Rubio split her matches, losing the first 6-2, 6-2 and winning the second 6-4, 7-5.
In doubles play, Pinzon and Rubio lost both matches with an identical 8-5 score. Belanogova and Flint-Herrera lost 8-1 and Jaimes and Garcia were bested 8-3. Head Coach Justin Webb noted, "We knew the week was going to be a tremendous challenge with five matches scheduled and myself and Coach Sanders are really pleased with the effort the ladies put forth all week. Today I was really proud of the way Viktoriia fought to the very end. We have improved greatly over the course of the season and will spend the next few days preparing mentally and physically for the Conference Tournament next week. We certainly hope the improvement translates into success with the opportunity to qualify for the State Championships on deck."
