LANCASTER - The Marauder women's soccer team was shutout in the first half, but a second half surge which resulted in three goals lifted it to an easy 3-1 victory over LA Valley College, Tuesday afternoon at Marauder Stadium.
I thought the team showed great resiliency and determination," AVC head coach Charles Gordon said. "I'm very proud of their performance."
The Marauders (3-1) were blanked in the first half and trailed 1-0 at halftime following a goal by Karla Lopez in the 43rd minute.
Whatever Gordon told his team at halftime worked.
AVC scored three goals in a span of less than 15 minutes. The Marauders finally got on the board at 67:49 when Lynnette Diaz set up Alyssa Sanchez for the first goal and a 1-1 tie. About 12 minutes later Diaz helped herself out with a goal at 79:11 giving AVC a 2-1 lead. Vivian Jauregui capped off the night with AVC's third goal of the game at 81:33 sealing the victory.
The Marauders dominated the entire game by spending most of the evening on the attacking end. AVC outshot the Monarchs (1-2), 21-4.
