PASADENA - Marauder women's golf coach George Fetters has to be smiling.
"We are improving each week," Fetters said. "We appear to be peaking at the right time with the last Western State Conference tournament next Monday."
Leading the way for the Marauders on Monday at the Brookside Golf Course in Pasadena hosted by Glendale College, was Michaela Klundt, who finished first overall with the low score of 72. Klundt shot five strokes better than the next best finisher, Moorpark College's Georgia Shevitt.
Along with Klundt and Shevitt, only two other players JoJo Roecker and Cassandra Lee, both of College of the Canyons, broke 80. Santa Barbara City College once again won the team title as five of its six players shot between 80 and 82. COC was second followed by Bakersfield and AVC.
The Marauders' Amy Chaffino shot her best round of the season by finishing with an 86.
"It was definitely an outstanding performance by her (Chaffino)," Fetters said.
AVC's next match with be on Monday at the Simi Hills Golf Course hosted by Moorpark College, followed by the Wester State Conference Championships on Oct. 29-30 at Kern River Golf Course.
