BAKERSFIELD - The Marauder women's basketball team improved its record to 2-0 following a 52-46 victory against Pasadena City College at the Bakersfield College Turner and Stanley Crossover on Saturday afternoon.
Deja Smith led the Marauders with 20 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists. Brieanna Perkins finished with 10 points and six rebounds, including three 3-pointers.
AVC had to pick up much of the slack when Shantanel Bivens was plagued with foul trouble. Bivens eventually fouled out but did lead the Marauders with 10 rebounds and added four points.
"It was an outstanding team effort. I thought our bench provided key defensive stops to secure the victory," AVC head coach Barry Green said. "We still have room to grow, but if we continue to play unselfishly we can compete with the best in southern California."
AVC connected on a total six 3-pointers on only 6-of-30 shooting, however, The Lancers (1-1) shot a dismal 1-of-22 from behind the arc. Pasadena was led by Alisa Shinn who had a game-high 23 points and added 12 rebounds.
