SANTA CLARITA - Shantanel Bivens finished the regular season with her 10th double-double of the season by scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, but it was not enough as the Marauder women's basketball team fell short against first place College of the Canyons, Saturday afternoon.
A win would have move AVC into a 3-way tie for second place along with LA Valley College and Citrus College, but unfortunately for the Marauders they dropped to third place and likely out of the playoff picture.
Shekinah Broadway finished with 17 points and five rebounds, however, AVC shot a dismal 18-of-70 from the field.
AVC, which led 22-19 at halftime, led by as many as five points a total of six times in the game but was unable to fully seize control as the Cougars kept clawing their way back into the game.
The Marauders led 31-26 with 4:48 remaining int the third quarter, but back came COC. The Cougars took control of the game following a 17-0 run giving them a 43-31 lead. AVC trailed by 15 points with 3:52 remaining in the final quarter. The Marauders mounted a late rally, but it was not enough.
