LANCASTER - The Marauder women's basketball team opened Western States-South Conference play with an easy 62-37 victory over visiting Glendale College.
It was the second victory over Glendale for AVC this season. The Marauders (6-10, 1-0) defeated the Vaqueros (3-11, 0-1) 61-38 earlier this season on Dec. 4.
Shantanel Bivens recorded her seventh double-double this season finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds. It was Bivens' fifth consecutive game with 10 or more rebounds. Shekinah Broadway had her usual impressive night as she had 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
"I had fun out there. There was a lot of excitement tonight," said Bivens. "I think we played well. We had a few too many turnovers, but it was a good win for us tonight. This shows how we can be for conference and what we need to improve on."
Despite committing 24 turnovers, AVC's defense forced Glendale into 28 turnovers. The Marauders had their best shooting night of the season finishing 47% on the night.
AVC led 14-12 after the first quarter and outscored the Vaqueros 33-9 in the second and third quarters combined.
