AVC Softball lost their first home game of the season 9-1 to Mt. San Antonio College on Wednesday.
The Mounties jumped out to an early lead in the top of the 2nd inning by scoring three unearned runs off an error and a double. AVC tried to answer back in the bottom of the inning when Maritza Arroyo hit a solo home run. It would be the only offense the Marauders would generate on the day as they finished with only two hits.
AVC's defense didn't help the cause either as they finished with three errors on the day.
Leading by two runs in the 5th inning, Mt. SAC's Alyssa Martinez hit a two-run homer. Things then got out of hand for the Marauders as the bases were loaded after an error, a walk, and a pitch hit a batter. Nicole Siess then hit a grand slam to blow the game open.
This was AVC's third straight loss to Mt. San Antonio in the last two seasons as they lost 2-1 and 8-0 back in April of last year.
Briana Garrett struck out six batters in the loss. AVC will play in a two-day tournament this weekend in Glendale before returning home to face Moorpark College on Tuesday, February 4th, at 2:30 pm.
