WALNUT - Marauder softball head coach missed her first chance of becoming the school's all-time leader in career wins after her team dropped to Mt. SAC, 8-7, Tuesday afternoon at Mt. SAC.
AVC (1-1) trailed 7-1 after four complete innings before it started to come alive. The Marauders scored three runs in the top of the fifth and three more in the top of the seventh, however, it was not enough as the Mounties had built a comfortable lead.
"Unfortunately, a few costly errors extended a couple of innings and hurt us," Vargas said.
Paige Johnson provided the offensive power for AVC as she finished 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored. Valerie Dorantes was 2-for-3 with three runs scored.
Vargas tied the school record in career wins in the Marauders opening game of the season against Pasadena City College. Vargas will attempt once again to set the school mark, against a familiar foe in San Bernardino Valley College on Friday.
