LANCASTER - The Marauder softball team collected its first win of the season in impressive fashion with an easy 9-1 victory over previously undefeated Moorpark College, Tuesday afternoon.
Pitcher Naelyse Garcia was dominant on the mound and at the plate. She pitched five innings, allowing only four hits and one earned run. Garcia also helped herself at the plate by collecting two hits, scoring two runs and had an RBI.
"It feels great to finally get that first win under our belt. We started out slow the first couple of games and we finally pieced it all together," said Garcia. "We were able to swing the bat well and score early. After a bad loss last week (against Palomar College), we just had to shake it off and get ourselves together and practice hard and it definitely showed today."
It has been a rough start to the season for AVC, as two of its three losses have come to teams ranked in the top 10 in the state, including defending state champion Palomar.
Moorpark scored a run in the top of the second inning, however, that lead would be short lived as the Marauders scored three runs in the bottom half of the second inning and never looked back.
Erica Serfoss was 4-for-4 on the afternoon, including a triple and Angelica Ochoa was 3-for-3 with a double for the Marauders. Teammate Maria Acosta collected two hits, both doubles, and knocked in two runs.
