MOORPARK - The Marauder men's soccer team took the early lead against host Moorpark College, however, the Raiders responded with a goal only minutes later and both teams played to a 1-1 tie Tuesday afternoon.
The lone AVC (5-4-1) goal came at 9:17 in the first half off the foot of Jimmy Rivera giving the Marauders a 1-0 lead. It was Rivera's second goal of the season.
"With their (Moorpark) increasing numbers on defense and playing direct in the air without much transition or possession by the Raiders, we had multiple chances of finishing with game winners, two which hit the goal post and the other just barely missing wide in an open net," AVC head coach Jerry Stupar said. "We just struggled to finish but won both halves with possession and shot attempts. We walked away with a tie, but it could have easily been 4-1 based on the shots we did not convert."
Moorpark's (2-4-1) Jonathon Ramirez tied the score about five minutes later on a penalty kick that got past goal keeper Nick Springer to even the match, 1-1.
