LANCASTER - The Marauder men's soccer team opened the 2017 season much like it did last season; with a victory over Imperial Valley.
Certainly it wasn't as easy as last season, but head coach Jerry Stupar will take it, especially after a hard earned 2-1 victory over the Arabs, Friday afternoon at Marauder Stadium.
"Imperial Valley turned out to be a better match than anticipated," Stupar said. "Despite the heat they battled us for 40 minutes."
Last season, the Marauders (1-0) had no problems defeating the Arabs, 4-1, at Imperial Valley College for the school's first-ever victory.
Last year's conference Player of the Year, Jose Mojica scored two second half goals off assists from Gersen Alvarenga and Jimmy Rivera to lead AVC to victory. The Marauders outshot Imperial Valley 22-6.
