AVC golfer Tanner Klundt qualified and represented the Marauders at the So Cal Championships on Monday. The two-round tournament was played in one day at the Industry Hills Golf Club Babe Course. Fifteen colleges and 67 players were repented from the Southern California region.
Klundt shot a 75 in the first round, as the field average was 78. He minimized his mistakes by making some great recovery shots, while his accurate driving left him with several birdie opportunities, three of which he made.
In the second round, Tanner shot an 82 as the field average remained at 78. He got off to a slow start with a 43 on the front nine as he struggled to sink some crucial putts. His two-round score of 157 placed him 12th out of the 43 qualifying individuals competing for six spots. He needed a combined score of 151 to move on to the state championships.
"Tanner came in confident, well prepared, and fully capable of shooting the scores needed to move on, but just had a bad 9-hole stretch today," said head coach Brad Hazard. "I'm very proud of how he represented our college, community, and our golf program as he battled for 36 holes. Tanner will learn from this experience, and I look forward to seeing him get another chance at making it to state next year," he added.
