AVC Men's basketball got back in the win column with a home win over Rio Hondo on Tuesday. The 78-64 win snapped a three-game losing streak and pulled the Marauders to 5-6 on the season.
Antelope Valley enjoyed as much as a 7-point lead in the first half but headed into the locker room down 34-36 at the break.
The Marauders stepped up their defensive efforts in the second half as they held Rio Hondo to 33% shooting, down from 43% in the first half. Evan Scott-Alexander had a game-high 17 points, while Gerrod Franklin had 16 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Kaelin Smith was one rebound short of a double-double with 13 points and 9 boards. Joshua Assiff had a solid night with 10 points and 7 rebounds, while Josh Montiano had a game-high 7 assists to go along with 8 points.
AVC finished shooting 40% from the field, including 33% from behind the 3-point line and 46% from the free-throw line.
Next on the schedule is the Cuyamaca Classic on Dec. 28-30 in San Diego before the start of conference play on January 4 at home against West LA.
