HAYWARD - Most people call him "Scooter."
Maybe they should change that to "Altruistic."
If you don't have a dictionary handy, it means very unselfish. And that's what Charles Hall has been since joining the Marauder men's basketball team.
It showed Wednesday afternoon in the opening round of the Chabot Tournament when Hall dished out a a career-high 17 assists against an overmatched Sierra College in the Marauders' 95-66 victory.
And oh by the way, Hall just happened to tie a school record with the 17 assists with former UNLV standout Dedan Thomas set had 17 dimes in 1989 and Mike Hamelin who had 17 helpers in 1995.
"It felt good to tie the school record for assists in a game. I tend to get more excited for an assist than getting a basket for myself," Hall said. I've always prided myself on being an unselfish player both on offense and defense. I wasn't the only one passing the ball. We moved the ball extremely well today. Our unselfish basketball was beautiful to be a part of."
AVC (8-5), which has won seven of its past eight games since beginnning the season 1-4, dished out a season-high 36 assists in 39 field goals. It was Hall's third game this season in which he finished in double figures in assists.
The Marauders had five players score in double figures, led by Christian Solis who finished with 21 points, including a career-high seven 3-pointers. Jailen Gill finished with 18 points and five rebounds. Cory Dollarhide (16 points) netted four 3-pointers and Antone Warren joined in the stat sheet with 13 points and seven rebounds.
AVC will look to move into the finals when it faces one of the top teams in northern California, Diablo Valley on Thursday.
