Marauder Baseball took game two of the three-game series against College of the Canyons 10-9 on Thursday. After winning a 10-inning battle earlier in the week against the Cougars (11-7), game two also came down to the wire.
AVC fell behind early after surrendering 3 runs in the 1st inning. They bounced back with a William Joseph 2-RBI double and a sacrifice RBI from Mason Johnson.
The Cougars came roaring back with a 3-run inning in the 4th and a 1-run 5th inning. Down 7-3 in the bottom of the 5th, the Marauders began to rally back behind a grand slam from Nate Scott. Scott leads AVC in home runs on the season with 7. Antelope Valley then took a 1-run lead when Colin Hagen hit an RBI single to score Zach Terry.
Canyons tied the game with a run in the 7th inning and then took a 9-8 lead with another run in the top of the 9th. With 1 out in the bottom of the 9th, Joe Uribe started the comeback rally with a solo-blast deep over the center-field fence. After he walked, Nathan Duarte advanced to second base off a single from Zach Terry. Pinch-hitter Omar Santamaria then provided the celebration with a walk-off single to right field, scoring Duarte for the 10-9 win.
Both Colin Hagen and Mason Johnson finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Omar Santamaria and Joe Uribe each had an RBI and a hit. Zach Terry ended 3-for-4, and Ariv Camacho had 2 hits. Nate Scott recorded 4 RBI on the day while William Joseph had 2. Joseph and Scott lead the Marauders with 32 runs batted in on the season.
Starter Patrick Berry, Sam Maudsley, and Josh Nuno combined for 4 K's over 6 innings. Chase Hadley, Marshal Saul, and Colin Stout also contributed on the mound.
The Marauders, now 11-11 overall, will close out the series at Canyons on Saturday before returning home to begin their 3-game conference series against Bakersfield on 3/29.
