AVC Baseball scored in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the 9th to outlast Glendale College 8-7.
In the fourth meeting between the two teams this season, the Marauders scored first and built a 6-0 lead going into the top of the 8th inning. Wyatt Hendrie scored two of his three RBIs on a double to right center. Alec Sanchez, Freddie Garcia, and Michael Haith all knocked in runs to help build the lead. Pitcher Andrew Garcia was strong through seven innings, shutting down a Glendale team that had previously scored double-digit runs against the Marauders twice.
It was the in the 8th inning that Glendale came storming back. They scored seven runs to take a one-point lead heading into the 9th inning. AVC held them scoreless in the top of the 9th but had work to do in the bottom of the inning to get the win. That's when Wyatt Hendrie stepped up again with a single to center field to score Freddie Garcia and advance Celso Castro IV to second base. With the game tied 7-7, Castro IV stole third and scored on an error by the pitcher who stepped off and tried to throw him out.
The Marauder victory evened the season series 2-2 with Glendale. Wyatt Hendrie finished 3-4 with three RBIs, while Freddie Garcia finished 2-4 and Michael Haith finished 2-3. Both Haith and Garcia ended with one RBI.
The Marauders are now 10-15 overall and 5-6 in conference play. Their next home game will be against Victor Valley on April 4th at 2:30 pm.
