VOLLEYBALL IMPROVES, BUT FALLS AT HOME TO RIO HONDO AND LA MISSION

It's been a rough beginning for the AVC Women's Volleyball team, but they continue to show signs of improvement in the box score. They are off to a 1-5 start, including two home losses against Rio Hondo (25-15, 25-19, 25-15) and LA Mission (25-18, 25-14, 25-16) this week. The team totaled 33 kills (22 against Rio Hondo, 11 against LA Mission), with freshmen Kyla Dothard leading the way with a total of 9. Nicole Fletes had 7 kills over the two-game stretch, including a team-high 4 kills against LA Mission. Dothard leads the Marauders in kills on the season with 26, followed by Ella Gawallek with 17.

Defensively it was Samantha Aranzazu and Kyla Dothard teaming up for 19 digs (Dothard - 11, Aranzazu - 8), with Vanessa Fletes adding 5 digs. Vanessa Fletes and Ella Gawallek had 3 blocks each. V. Fletes also had 30 assists to go along with 5 aces. Sabre Jensen (2), Claire Holm (2), V. Fletes (4), Samantha Aranzazu (3), also recorded kills.

The Marauders will look to bounce back with a road match against a 3-5 Cuesta team before returning home to face the 1-5 Glendale Vaqueros on Wednesday, Sept. 28th at 6:00 pm.
