Antelope Valley's Madison Schafer has qualified for the CCCAA Women's Golf State Championship. Shafer punched her ticket as she battled through wet and cold conditions to shoot 85-81-166 at the Southern California Regionals Women's Golf Finals, hosted by Fullerton College, on Sunday and Monday at El Prado Golf Club. Day two was in the rain throughout, which led to mud being a major factor. Madison played the final five holes even par, finishing with a birdie on 18 to make the cut by five shots. The driving range was closed due to rain, so without a range warm-up, Madison birdied the first hole to set the tone for her State Finals qualifying round 2. She made two birdies on the day on holes 1 and 18.
"I couldn't be more proud of how Madison performed under a great amount of pressure in very challenging conditions," said Head Coach Patrick Londono. "Madison did a phenomenal job of sticking to the game plan from our practice round and executing regardless of the variables outside of her control."
This marks back-to-back years that the Marauder Women's Golf program will be represented in the CCCAA's State Championship after winning the top individual prize last season.
Schafer will look to cap off a great individual season, which included 4 top 5s highlighted by 2nd place finishes at Rio Bravo Golf Club and Antelope Valley Country Club, and a 3rd place finish at Los Robles Golf Club, totaling 8 top 10s overall.
The Championship will be held at Morro Bay Golf Course on Monday, Nov. 13-14.
