AVC Women's Basketball went 1-1 this week with a 52-64 win over the LA Harbor Seahawks and a 66-65 loss to the Santa Barbara Vaqueros.
Tuesday's win over the Seahawks was highlighted by AVC's defense, which held Harbor to 26% shooting on the day. The Marauders were able to convert 40% of their shots from the field, led by Courtney Hart's game-high 28 points and Cierra Steemer's 23 points off the bench. Steemer added a game-high 18 rebounds for a double-double, along with 3 blocks and 2 assists. Key'illa Barnes added 8 points and 8 rebounds, while Betzy Alvarado had 4 points. Bridgett Ignacio had a game-high 6 assists.
Wednesday's loss to Santa Barbara was a back-and-forth battle decided in the final seconds. AVC outshot the Vaquero's 45% to 35% from the field. They also finished with a 41 to 35 rebound advantage, but the 20 turnovers gave Santa Barbara extra opportunities, which they made the most of.
Courtney Hart led the way with a double-double, including a game-high 33 points and 10 rebounds. Hart leads the Marauders and the Western State-South Conference in points (22.8) and rebounds (11.7). Cierra Steemer had 15 points and 7 rebounds. She is currently second in the conference behind Hart in rebounds per game with 10.8. Allysa Taylor led the team with 7 assists, while Amber Jordan had 5 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. Bridgett Ignacio matched the game-high rebounds with 10 and added 6 assists and 3 points.
Antelope Valley will compete in the Rio Hondo College Crossover to close out 2023. They'll start 2024 with conference play on the road at West LA before returning home to face LA Valley on January 7th.
