SOFTBALL SHUTS OUT CANYONS ON THE ROAD TO WIN WESTERN STATE CONFERENCE TITLE
Marauder Softball captured the 2023 Western State Conference Championship after beating College of the Canyons 5-0 on the road on Tuesday.
Marauder Softball captured the 2023 Western State Conference Championship after beating College of the Canyons 5-0 on the road on Tuesday. AVC took two of the three games against the conference rivals this season, but none more important than this one with a conference title on the line.
Emmeliz Sera went the distance in the circle for AVC's shutout, giving up 0 runs and just 3 hits to the 25 batters faced in 7 innings. The Marauders gave up no errors on the day and scored their 5 runs off 9 hits, while the Cougars committed 2 errors.
Offensively, Antelope Valley was led by Savannah Cervantes (4-for-4, 2 RBI) and Kylie Zinn (2-for-2, 2 RBI). Cervantes put AVC on the board in the 3rd inning with a 2-RBI double, scoring Natasha Arroyo and pinch-runner Bella Escobar. In the 6th inning, Cadence Crampton brought home pinch-runner Maeyll Grimes giving AVC a 3-0 lead. Kylie Zinn then hit her third home run of the season, a 2-RBI shot to left field to put the Marauders up 5-0. The defense held tight for six more outs to seal the win.
Marauder Softball finishes the regular season 15-3 in conference (26-14 overall) and has won 18 Conference Championships in total. They will move on to post-season play as the first round of Regionals is set for May 5-6.
