Marauder Men's and Women's Track teams competed at Moorpark College in their Annual Open Meet with collegiate and post-collegiate athletes competing.
Prishencia Nnoham highlighted the team effort scoring 3 medals. Nnoham took first in the open 400-meters and anchored the victorious 4x100-meter relay. Her 400-meter time of 58.55 met the So Cal "A" standard and ranked her 2nd in the Western State Conference, 4th in So Cal, and 7th in the state. She returned for the bronze medal in the 200-meters, moving to 2nd in the WSC, 10th in So Cal, and 14th in the state.
The only other winner for the Marauders came from Jordan Kennon, who recorded his seasonal best in the triple jump, which moved him into 4th place in the conference.
Teammate Mac Ene did not compete in the triple jump but is in the conference No. 2 spot, while basketballer Kaelin Smith also placed 3rd in the triple jump.
Ella Gawellak moved into the NO. 4 spot in the WSC by placing 2nd in the women's discus after adding 3 feet to her seasonal best.
Celeste Meza placed third in the 400-meter hurdles and improved her WSC, So Cal, and state rankings to 5th, 14th, and 23rd, respectively, while Sara Morales placed 3rd in the women's pole vault, having competed in the event for the first time only one week ago.
"We had several significant improvements in this meet," commented head Track & Field coach Tony Veney. "It was great making an impact in the meet with our medalists... several young people performed well and also improved their overall conference stock. With only one more competition on the schedule until the WSC Prelims, we are approaching the time of the season where you have to be at your best to survive and advance to the state meet in May," he added.
The Marauders travel to Glendale College on April 8th for the Vaquero Invitational. Field events begin at 10 am, and the running events start at noon.
