GLENDALE - It wasn't pretty, especially to start, but the only thing that mattered to the Marauder men's basketball team was getting the victory.
After a shaky start to the game, AVC responded with a big second half and defeated a scrappy Glendale team with a 70-68 victory over the Vaqueros, Saturday afternoon at Glendale College.
"(It was) not our best effort of the season, but a gut check for us and we came out on top," AVC head coach John Taylor said. "We showed a lot of courage in the second half despite the situation. Good team find a way to win on their best or worst day or at least a bad first half and we did that."
The Marauders (17-7, 4-1) didn't get off to the start that they expected. Glendale (11-11, 1-4), opened the game with a 10-0 run. AVC got things together and even took the lead midway through the first half, 19-18. The Vaquerors, however, used a 15-3 run to take back the lead 33-22 and led 40-29 lead.
Whatever Taylor said in the locker room, it must have worked.
AVC outscored Glendale, 41-28, in the second half to hang on for the victory.
D'Mauria Jones led all scorers with 19 points for the Marauders. Antone Warren only played 20 minutes, as once again he was plagued with foul trouble, but finished with 15 points and six rebounds.
