LANCASTER - Earlier this season Marauder men's basketball player Chris Martin said that his team needs to "step on teams and put them away."
It finally did against College of the Canyons Wednesday night.
Joseph Moorer scored a career-high 27 points and knocked down seven 3-pointers helping lead the Marauders to "step on and put away" COC, 85-66, at Marauder Gym.
"My coaches told me that I needed to be more assertive on offense and get it going earlier than later," Moorer said. "Our biggest issue is when we have a lead put teams away; tonight I thought we did that. We have to have that killer instinct to continue to go far in conference."
With the victory, the Marauders trail only Santa Monica College and Bakersfield College, by one game atop the Western States Conference-South Division standings.
Cory Dollarhide continued his impressive shooting as he finished with five 3-pointers and 18 points. Martin finished with six points and seven assists.
The last time an AVC player finished with seven 3-pointers was in 2011 by Joshua Johnson against Rio Hondo College.
The Marauders led 43-29 at halftime and kept their foot to the pedal by outscoring COC 42-37 in the second half. AVC was only 15-of-27 from the free throw line.
