CULVER CITY - Ever since Western State South conference play began, teams that struggled normally played their best game and pushed the Marauders to their limit.
Away from Marauder Gym, someone finally got them, as West LA - who was just over .500 on the season - beat the now 15-2 Marauders 76-72.
Ryan Wright led AVC with 14 points and seven rebounds. The Marauders shot a dismal 6-of-22 from 3-point range, while sharpshooter Cory Dollarhide was only 1-of-7 from behind the arc and finished with five points. The Marauders' leading scorer Joseph Moorer was only 1-of-8 shooting from the field and finished with only two points.
Kashif Williams and Nevell Lenard each finished with 11 points for the Marauders. AVC still struggled with rebounding as it hasn't had a player rebound in double-figures since earlier this season.
"Every team we play gets excited to play us and maybe they hit shots they normally don't hit," AVC's Chris Martin said. "We get every team's best shot, so we have to go out and play our best. We can't let their best shot be enough."
AVC had only lost two conference games the past two seasons prior to Wednesday night's loss, both at Citrus College.
