The Antelope Valley College Men and Women's cross country teams traveled to Bakersfield for the Southern California Cross Country Preview, hosted by Bakersfield College. The Kern County Soccer Park Venue provided the Southern schools an opportunity to preview the course that will be used for the State Meet qualifier on November 4th.
The women started the day placing 11th overall, with Regina Kiminya taking the top Marauder spot, placing 40th out of 124 finishers. Kiminya was followed by Rosa Aquiano, Wynter Wilson, Anahi Machado, and Brianna Dominquez.
The men's team placed 18th out of the 25 scoring teams and was led by Bobby Reynoso's 66th place finish out of 247 finishers. Reynoso was supported by Tim Moreno, Jesus Flores, Richard Rose, Kai Smithley, Joe Lopez, and Joseph Santiago. "We still have a lot more work to do in the coming weeks, said head coach Tony Veney, but I was happy with the effort. The top 14 teams will advance on November 4th to the CCCAA State Finals, and the women's position is very encouraging. Several teams did not run their full complement, so we haven't punched our ticket quite yet. We were without Vanessa Pens, who I feel would have bolstered our team score. We hope to have her back in time for November. On the men's side, I felt if we were 20th after this meet, we could position ourselves to make a top 14 run later. So being 18th is a bonus. We have to continue to get better since the rest of the south will do the same."
The Marauders will next compete in the WSC Preview hosted by LA Mission College Friday, September 30th, on the campus of Pierce College. The women's 5k will start at 1 pm, and the men's 4-mile race will follow at 2 pm. Go Marauders!
