The Antelope Valley Men and Women's track teams returned to Moorpark College for the Southern California Regional Finals. This competition represented the final qualifier for the State Finals to be held at Mt SAC, May 20-21.
Xavier Tatham placed 6th in the men's discus with another PR performance, to go along with his 6th place in the hammer throw competition a week ago. For the women, the day started with the women's 4x100 meter relay team of Sara Morales, Kayla Thompson, Briann Brazill, and Prishencia Nnoham placing 4th, and running the second-fastest time in school history. Kayla Thompson would shatter her old personal record of 56.39 with a 55.53 effort, placing second in the women's 400-meter final. Prishencia Nnoham would also advance to the state meet, placing 7th but possessing the state automatic qualifying time, allowing her to move on.
Briann Brazill claimed the final individual qualifier, placing 6th in the women's 100 meters. Brazill would later team up with Celeste Meza, Kayla Thompson, and Prishencia Nnoham to place 6th and qualify in the 4x400 meter relay team with the 6th fastest time in school history.
"We had a successful Regional Final," commented Head Men's and Women's Track & Field coach Tony Veney. "We brought three young men and five young women to the meet, and 6 of the 8 scored medals and All-SoCal status... just one more meet to go to put a cherry on top of the 2022 track season,"
State Finals running events begin at 3:30 pm on Saturday, 5/21, at Mt. San Antonio College.
