AVC Women's Tennis earned their first Western State Conference victory of the season, defeating Glendale College 6-3.
In doubles play #1 Ariana Valiente and Alex Coons lost 3-8. At the #2 spot, Isabel Ortiz and Giselle Reyes jumped out to a 6-3 lead before seeing the match tied at 6 all. They won the next two games to earn their first doubles win of the year 8-6. After dropping the first set, Diana Henriquez and My Kenzie Gross-Solomon won eight straight games, to win 8-1 at the #3 spot.
In singles play, #1 Valiente lost 3-6, 1-6, #2 Coons lost 3-6, 1-6, and #3 Ortiz won 7-5, 6-1, 0-6. Once again, the Marauders won singles matches in three-set thrillers, with #4 Reyes splitting the first two sets 2-6, 6-2, and winning the third set 6-2. #5 Gross-Solomon split the first two 4-6, 6-2, then won the third 6-3. #6 Henriquez won 6-2, 6-1.
Coach Webb stated, "I was very happy to see Isabel and Giselle pull it out. They've been playing better, and it's always nice to see that translate into victory. The depth of our lineup really showed today with singles wins at 3-6. We continue to demonstrate the ability to keep playing through adversity, which will serve us well throughout the year."
The Marauders are now 2-6 overall and 1-2 in Western State Conference play. They will return to the court for a conference home match vs. Ventura College on Thursday, Feb. 20, at 2:00 PM. @avcwomenstennis
