MARAUDERS FALL TO LA MISSION
AVC Women's Tennis fell to the Los Angeles Mission College Eagles 2-7.
In their first Western State Conference match of the season, AVC Women's Tennis fell to the Los Angeles Mission College Eagles 2-7.
In doubles play with three matches that went back and forth throughout, No. 1 Ariana Valiente and Alex Coons and No. 2 Isabel Ortiz and Giselle Reyes both lost 5-8, and No. 3 Diana Henriquez and My Kenzie Gross-Solomon won 9-7.
In singles play, No. 1 Valiente lost 1-6, 0-6, No. 2 Ortiz lost 3-6, 3-6. No. 3 Coons won 6-3, 6-0. At the No. 4 spot, Reyes dropped the first set 0-6, then took a 3-0 and 4-3 lead in the second, but lost the next three games to drop the match 4-6. No. 5 Gross-Solomon lost 2-6, 2-6, and No. 6 Henriquez fell behind 1-5 in the first, battled back to tie the set at 5-5, then lost the first set 5-7, and the second 0-6.
Coach Webb stated, "Alex has really started to play well in singles, and MyKenzie and Diana continue to play well in doubles, which are both positives. Overall, we are in many matches and need to focus on winning the key points to turn the results in our favor."
"The ladies are working really hard, and we just need to translate that hard work into success in matches," Webb added. The Marauders are now 1-5 overall and 0-1 in Western State Conference play. After their match against College of the Canyons was postponed due to weather, AVC will return to the court for a conference home match against Bakersfield College on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 2:00 p.m.
