The Antelope Valley weather has been kind to the Marauders of late, but unfortunately, it has not turned into victories for the Marauders, as AVC falls to visiting Bakersfield College 8-1.
In doubles play Kristi Henderson and Jylian Brown lost 3-8, Marijane Garcia and Caroline Gonzalez lost 2-8, and Marisol Valdez and Frida Anguiano lost 2-8 as well.
In singles action, Kristi Henderson was able to pick up a service break while down 4-5 to even the set at 5-5, but dropped the next two games, and the first set 5-7 then lost the second, 0-6.
Marijane Garcia lost 2-6, 2-6. Jylian Brown picked up the lone win for the Marauders at No. 3 Singles winning 7-6(5), 6-2. Caroline Gonzalez won the first set 6-0, then dropped the next two 2-6, 2-6. Marisol Valdez lost 4-6, 2-6, and Frida Anguiano lost 2-6, 3-6.
Marbella Rubio was also victorious in a non-scoring match, winning 6-0, 6-0. Head Coach Justin Webb stated, " We are going through some growing pains with a young team right now, but we continue to show signs of improvement. As long as we continue to fight and improve, we will see our results as individuals and a team improve as well." Webb also noted, " I was really impressed with the way Jylian was able to fight through adversity. She was up 4-3 in the first, went down 5-4, won two to go up 6-5, lost to go to the tiebreak, and won the set 7-6 (5), then won going away in the second 6-2. Doubles has been a struggle for us, and we have made some changes, and we'll take advantage of the bye to tighten that up ."
The Marauders return to the court next Tuesday, February 18th for a home conference match versus College of the Canyons.
