AVC Women's Soccer outlasted Bakersfield 1-0 in a home match on Friday. The win keeps the Marauders undefeated in conference play and atop the Western State-South conference. In a defensive battle, AVC kept the offensive pressure on with 18 shots, 10 shots on goal. It wasn't until the 87:40 minute mark that Cassi James scored with a spectacular kick from 25 yards away. Paola Figueroa provided the assist for the game-winning goal. James had a game-high 8 shots on the day, with 4 on goal. She leads the Marauders in goals on the season with 11.
Kelsey Brustuen had 2 shots on goal, while Figueroa, Kaylin Gonzalez, Megan Salvesvold, and Emily Serrano each recorded a shot on goal. Katie Crees had 2 saves on the day as AVC held the Renegades to just two attempts on goal.
The Marauders are in first place in the Western State-South conference at 7-0-1 and are 11-3-2 overall. They'll play on the road at LA Valley and Glendale before returning home to face West LA on November 1 at 12:30 pm.
