Women's Soccer won a crucial conference game against College of the Canyons 2-1 on Friday.
The Cougars came into AVC riding a five-game win streak with a 5-1-1 conference record. But coach Gordon's Marauders were well prepared and ready for the physical battle.
COC struck first with a goal in the 26:07 minute and took a 1-0 lead into halftime. AVC gained momentum at the top of the second half when Kelsey Ruiz scored off an assist from Kelsey Brustuen.
Shortly after that, Bianca Carrillo scored what would end up being the game-winning goal after a corner kick by Ruiz. Carrillo has a team-leading 12 goals for the Marauders on the season. Barbara Vivas recorded two saves on the day.
The Marauders have won four of their last five contests and will have another tough match against the Citrus Owls on Tuesday, 10/26, at home.
