The Marauders lost a conference matchup 4-1 against College of the Canyons.
AVC fell behind early in the contest after a goal by Lesly Cabrera in the first eight minutes. CAnyons scored again in the 26th-minute, giving the Cougars a 2-0 lead at the break.
Araceli Castaneda then scored two more goals for Canyons in the second half at the 54th and 63rd minute, widening the gap 4-0. The Marauders struggled to keep up the pace on defense and couldn't generate any offense despite five shots on goal. It wasn't until the 80th minute that AVC was able to break the shutout. That's when Belinda Lira scored the only goal for the Marauders off an assist from Vittoria Cataldo. It was Lira's first goal of the season and Cataldo's sixth assist. Cataldo leads the Marauders in assists.
Antelope Valley is now 4-3-1 in Western State Conference and 7-6-2 overall. They have their second match of the year against Citrus College on the road on Tuesday. The Marauders lost 1-0 to Citrus earlier in the season and will look to even the score.
