LANCASTER - It was a tale of two halves. Fortunately for the Marauder women's soccer team, it was on the end of the better half.
The Marauders got their first conference victory of the season with an easy 5-2 victory over Victor Valley College, Friday at Marauder Stadium.
The victory sets up a showdown with fellow first-place rival College of the Canyons on Tuesday at COC at 7pm.
Uncharacteristically AVC struggled in the first half. In fact, the Marauders (8-2-2, 1-0-1) trailed 2-0 at halftime following goals by the Rams' Yatsive Parra and Adriana Contreras. Whatever AVC head coach Charles Gordon told the girls at halftime, it must have worked. The Marauders exploded for five goals in the second half for the easy victory.
Vivian Jauregui got things started for the Marauders with a goal assisted by Rielly Rasmussen at 54:23, cutting Victor Valley's (6-7-2, 1-1) in half. Rasmussen helped Katie Arnold score a goal 16 minutes later to tie the score 2-2.
Arnold scored another goal only 4 1/2 minutes later which turned out to be the game-winner off the helper from Jauregui.Cindy Martin and Jauregui added two more goals and Alyssa Sanchez added two assists to help extend the lead.
