AVC women's golfer Arlene Faye Salvador won the CCCAA Women's Individual State Championship at Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande, CA.
Salvador shot a 68 and a 71 for a combined 5-under par, the best score by an individual champion in 25 years. "It's difficult to express in words how proud I am of Arlene's historic performance at the state finals tournament," said head coach Patrick London. "Saturday, we developed a game plan for how to attack this difficult golf course, and she executed flawlessly." The championship win caps off a record-breaking season for the Marauders, which included a long list of highlights.
They won the first team conference championship in school history. The previous best finish was 3rd in conference by the 2019 women's team, which at the time became the first women's team in school history to make regionals. On the way to a conference championship, the team set a regular-season school record for wins at 35-0. The 2019 women's team held the previous record at 26-19.
They also set a new school record for the lowest team score with a 327 back on August 30th at Buena Ventura Golf Course. (Arlene Faye Salvador - 67, Madison Schafer - 75, Adrianna Rosales - 92, Vashti Rachal - 93) Salvador's 67 on that day broke Makayla Klundt's school record of 71, the lowest individual score in men's or women's school history. She became the second player in school history to be named Conference Player of the Year, and she also made 1st Team All-Conference with an average score of 72 on the season, another new school record. "Arlene is a special talent and an even better person, friend, and teammate," London remarked. "Her success means so much to so many because of who she is as a person."
Madison Shaefer made 1st Team All-Conference 4th, making this season the first time two players have received 1st Team All-Conference honors in the same season. "I'm extremely proud of Madison's all-conference season, and I look forward to seeing what she can accomplish next season, which is limitless," commented Londono.
In light of such a successful season, coach Patrick Londono received Coach of the Year honors. "Any award received voted on by peers means a lot... I share this award with my team as their hard work made it possible," said Londono.
