The Marauders played some of their best golf of the season at the Western State Conference Finals located at Camarillo Springs Golf Course in Camarillo, Ca. They finished in third place on both days cementing third place outright in the conference, which is the best finish in the program's history. In addition, the third-place finish qualifies the team for regionals, which is also a program first for the Marauders.
Leading the way was outstanding freshman Makayla Dorman, who's two-day total was 170. Dorman's score included a season-low and personal best score of 83 on the second day. She finished her second round with a 38 on the back 9, totaling only 11 putts over the nine holes.
"Makayla has been working hard on her short game, and today her putting made a big difference," said head coach Patrick Londono. "It's fun watching technical adjustments made in practice come together when it matters."
Next up, Scarleth Pleitez finished with a two-day total of 186, which included some great ball striking and many near conversions on the greens. As last season's only individual qualifier for regionals, Scarleth improved her average this season by over ten strokes making great strides in her sophomore campaign.
"Scarleth did a great job for us this season and has been a key contributor during her two years at AVC," commented coach Londono.
Freshman Melody Garcia also shot a personal best on day two, which was highlighted by her course management. Melody's personal best round caps off a great stretch as she has topped her previous individual best scores in three of her last four rounds.
"Melody did a great job managing her game on day two... I'm proud of her progress throughout this season and think she has great room for improvement this offseason," said coach Londono.
Also contributing heavily to the team's success was Chloe Riviere, who improved her score by ten shots on day two, while playing through a mild wrist sprain.
The Marauders finished their 2019 campaign with a 26 win improvement from the previous year. "Our progress this season is a testament to the work put in during practice... there is no substitute for hard work," Londono added.
The Marauders will now compete in the Southern California Regionals at Via Verde Country Club on November 10th and 11th.
