Women's Golf played their first two WSCCC matches of the season this past weekend at the South Coast Classic. They finished third in the conference on both days. The Marauders are off to an excellent start as both the team and individual scores were lower than any team or individual scores shot last season.
On Day 1, Makayla Dormin shot 91, and Scarleth Pleitez shot 94 at the very challenging Olivas links. The rough on that course was over 18 inches tall, and the wind was blowing 20+ mph which led to many players struggling and many golf balls were lost. The scores individually were good enough for top 10 in the conference. The team shot a 414 which was good for third place in conference finishing ahead of Moorpark CC, Bakersfield CC, and Citrus CC.
On Day 2, Makayla shot an 84 and Scarleth shot 86 on the more traditional Buena Ventura golf course which still presented challenges with water in play on many holes. 86 was a PR for Scarleth (who qualified for regionals last season). Outstanding freshman Makayla's 84 was a young PR for collegiate competition. Both individual scores were good for the top 10. The team shot a 417 which was good for 3rd in the conference once again ahead of Moorpark CC, Bakersfield CC, and Citrus CC.
"Despite the scores being a very positive start to the season, we still have room for growth and improvement... I look forward to the challenge of helping these young women improve in all facets of the game." said head coach Patrick Londono. The Marauders will tee off again on September 9th in Santa Barbara.
