MARAUDER WOMEN'S GOLF CONTINUES TO IMPROVES, KLUNDT REMAINS SOLD

SYLMAR - Prior to the start of the season, Marauder women's golf coach George Fetters said he would be pleased if he had at least five golfers that could break 100.

Well four isn't bad, especially this early in the season.

Led by Michaela Klundt's round of 71, the Marauders are slowly rounding into shape and starting to be a contender including Monday's meet at the El Cariso Golf Course, hosted by College of the Canyons.

"We still have a ways to go to be competitive in our conference this year. Dropping 30 strokes with our top four would help tremendously," he said. "But our team is still progressing and getting better. We're definitely improving."

Klundt finished tied for second alongside Santa Barbara City College's Vanessa Watkins on the par 62 course. Watkins' teammate Lilly Carlson was the low scorer of the tournament shooting a 70 (+8). The Vaqueros, which placed second in the state last year and had five of their six competitors shoot in the 70s, won the tournament with the low score of 289, followed by COC (307) and Bakersfield College (320). AVC finished with a score of 363.

AVC received strong efforts from Amy Chaffino who shot a 95 and RyAnne Gaston (99). Kourtney Rogers had her best round of the season by shooting a 98. Emma Watson was the other Marauder golfer that nearly broke 100 as she finished with a 101.

"For me it was about staying focused and practicing hard," Rogers said. "The team has been practicing really hard and I know with a little determination you can do anything you put your mind to."

AVC will next compete in an 18-team, non-conference match on Sept. 24 and 25, held at the Morro Bay Golf Course.
