MARAUDER WOMEN'S GOLF LOOKS TO HAVE SOLID PLAY IN 2017
LANCASTER - Marauder women's golf head coach George Fetters says he is excited about the upcoming season.
And why wouldn't he be.
After a hiatus for many years, the program returned last year and this year so does state qualifier, Michaela Klundt.
"I think we're going to be better than last year. I have high expectations for them," Fetters said. "We're better, but out conference is better as well. If I have four players shoot under 100, I'll be happy and I'll know that we're playing to our ability. Last year we only had two players shoot under 100. This year we could have up to five."
Klundt, who was the first ever player in school history to go to the state championships, leads a much more experienced team in 2017.
"I'm really excited for this season. We have a lot of girls that enjoy the game and they are so motivated to want to get better," the sophomore phenom said. "Everyone on this team has the potential. It just has to be brought out all at once."
Emma Watson returns as the team's No. 2 player. Watson is the only other player, other than Klundt, to break 100 last season. No. 3 player Amy Chaffino returns for her sophomore season and Fetters expects big things from Klundt's supporting cast.
"She'll (Klundt) be one of the best in the state and I hope we'll give her some support," Fetters said. "We're looking for Emma to shoot in the 80's and the others in the 90's. If we do that, we'll be where we want to be. They can do it. I'm really looking forward to the season."
AVC opens its season on Monday in Ventura at the South Coast Classic at the Buena Ventura golf course.
