BIG SECOND HALF LEADS TO MARAUDER WOMEN'S BASKETBALL VICTORY

LANCASTER - Shekinah Broadway scored 17 points and Dir'Rashua Patterson added 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds to help lead the Marauder women's basketball team to a 61-51 victory against Bakersfield College.
The Marauders trailed the Renegades 29-27 at halftime but outscored their opponent 16-12 in the third quarter and had a big fourth quarter outscoring Bakersfield 18-10.
"I thought we came out mentally prepared. I know when we played them the last time we were not ready," said AVC's Mallorie Coefield. "I thought we started off the game well. There is still a lot of room for improvement."
With the victory, coupled with LA Valley's victory against Citrus, the Marauders moved into a three-way tie for second place with an 8-4 record in the Western States Conference-South Division standings.
AVC trailed 44-43 with 9:13 remaining in the fourth quarter, however, promptly used an 11-0 run to take a 54-44 lead. The Renegades, which shot the ball well in the first half connecting on five 3-pointers, were held without a field goal for five minutes while the Marauders made their run.
With the score tied 34-34 AVC went on a 7-0 run including four points from Patterson and a 3-pointer by Destini Price sandwiched in between. The Renegades then scored the next nine consecutive points to take a 43-41 lead.
Shantanel Bivens scored eight points for AVC and pulled down 10 rebounds.
