AVC softball team wrapped up their regular season play, going 1-1 against Cerritos College at home. The team is waiting to hear news of a playoff birth and schedule after the doubleheader.
The Marauders lost the first game 9-7 after surrendering 7 runs in the last inning. AVC held the lead for the first 6 innings and was ahead 6-2 heading into the top of the 7th. They built the lead with home runs from Kylie Zinn (2 RBI) and Rebecca Sanchez (solo) and singles from Natalia Hernandez (2 RBI) and Jolene Miramontes (1 RBI). But Cerritos exploded offensively, including 3 home runs before the Marauders could get three outs. Zinn hit a second home run in the bottom of the 7th as AVC fell short of a comeback. Helena Loera had 3 strikeouts in the loss, which pushed her total to 101 on the season.
In the first three innings of the second game, Natalia Hernandez, Rebecca Sanchez (2 RBI), and Kylie Zinn homered. Zinn continues to lead the conference in home runs with 10, followed closely by Hernandez, who has 9. Zinn also leads the conference with 39.
The Falcons responded with 2 runs in the 4th inning, but the Marauders answered 2 runs in the 6th courtesy of a 2-RBI single from Natalia Hernandez. Hernandez finished with a team-high 5 runs batted in on the day. Jolene Miramontes pitches all 7 innings with 7 strikeouts.
AVC finished the regular season 5-7 in conference and 16-23-1 overall and hopes to host a first-round playoff game.
