AVC Softball lost game one of Friday's doubleheader 9-4 but bounced back to win game two 6-5.
In game one, Antelope Valley led 3-1 after the first inning but surrendered 4 runs in the 2nd inning and 3 runs in the 3rd. Their 4 runs came from 7 hits with 2 errors, but they allowed the Vaqueros 14 hits. Natalia Hernandez recorded a 2-RBI homerun to left-centerfield. It was the first home run of the season for the freshman infielder from California City. Jolene Miramontes went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Kylie Zinn recorded the only other run with a groundout. Annalise Wagner struck out 5 in 5 innings of relief.
In the second contest, the Marauders went up 4-1 after scoring 3 runs in the 3rd inning. Both teams scored a run in the 4th and put up zeros in the 5th. Santa Barbara pulled within a run after scoring twice in the 6th. AVC responded by scoring an insurance run off an error in the bottom of the inning. That insurance would prove crucial as the Vaqueros came back to score another run in the final inning. The Marauder defense held off the comeback attempt with help from Jolene Miramontes, who struck out 2 in the last inning.
Starter Helena Loera went just over 5 innings and struck out 5 in the circle. Cadence Crampton went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI. Miramontes finished 2-for-3 with an RBI. Kylie Zinn and Rebecca Sanchez each recorded an RBI, while Angelina Quezada went 2-for-2.
Antelope Valley is now 7-6-1 and is on the road at Riverside before returning home to face Cuesta in a doubleheader on Thursday, Feb. 29.
