AVC Softball added another two games to their win column, beating the Fullerton Hornets 3-2 and 8-6 in a doubleheader at home on Saturday. The Hornets entered the contest ranked 4th in the 3CFCA's South Rankings and 9th in their overall State Rankings.
After two scoreless innings in game one, Savannah Cervantes hit an RBI single to get AVC on the board first. Alanna Hernandez then drew a walk to give them a 2-0 lead. The Marauders gave up a run in the top of the fourth inning but answered back in the bottom of the inning when Victoria Alcantar hit a sacrifice fly to score Maeyll Grimes. Fullerton scored a run in the fifth, but AVC's defense stayed solid to give them the 3-2 win. Victoria Alcantar (5 innings) and Emmeliz Sera (2 innings) combined for 6 strikeouts and just one earned run in the circle.
In game two, the Hornets came out swinging as they jumped to an early lead with a run in the first and two runs in the third inning. The Marauders responded with a 6-run rally in the bottom of the third. Natasha Arroyo hit a 3-RBI home run to tie the game at 3-3. Arroyo continues to lead AVC in home runs with 9 on the season. Alanna Hernandez then scored two RBI with a single to left field to give the Marauders a 5-3 lead. Hernandez finished 2-for-3 with 2 RBI. Later in the inning, Jayda Williams extended to lead to 6-3 with a sacrifice fly to right field.
The Hornets scored a run in the fourth inning, but Antelope Valley kept pace as Cadence Crampton logged her seventh home run of the season. The 2-RBI shot to right center gave AVC a 4-run lead and Crampton her team-leading 32nd RBI on the year. She finished 2-for-4 with 2 RBI, while Savannah Cervantes, Emily Centeno, Kylie Zinn, Maeyll Grimes, and Haylei Weiske also recorded hits for the Marauders. Emmeliz Sera pitched four innings, and Annalise Wagner closed it out in the circle.
The Marauders (22-12, 11-3 conference) have now won ten of their last 11 contests. They will finish an earlier postponed game one with Citrus College and play game three of the series against the Owls at 1:00 pm and 2:30 pm on Tuesday, 4/18, at AVC.
