AVC Softball lost their first game of the season in a tough 10-4 battle with Mt. San Antonio College.
The Marauders jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Nayely Delgado hit an RBI single to score Ariel Nieto in the bottom of the 1st inning. The Mounties scored in the top of the 3rd and tied it 1-1. But AVC answered right back in the bottom of the inning when Savannah Cervantes homered to left-center field, her first of the season.
The top of the 4th inning is when it slipped away from the Marauders as they surrendered 5 runs off several hits and an error to fall behind 6-2. After a scoreless 5th inning, Mt. SAC added another unearned run off of AVC's second error of the day. The Mounties then scored with a 3-RBI home run to take a 10-2 lead in the 7th.
Antelope Valley made a run in the bottom of the 7th inning as Cervantes scored another RBI with a pop-up to first base, scoring Nieto. A wild pitch scored Hailey Johnson before the final out of the loss. Madison Reiser had 6 K's in three and a half innings of work. Reiser now has 19 strikeouts on the season.
The 7-1 Marauders will look to bounce back as they face 1-4 Riverside City College on Tuesday on the road. AVC's next home game is on February 15th against Fullerton College.
