AVC Softball kicked off their 2022 season with a convincing win over the Pasadena City College Lancers on Thursday.
The Marauders got on the board right away as Nayely Delgado hit a triple off the fence in left field, scoring Ariel Nieto in the 1st inning. Denise Carrillo then hit an RBI single to score Delgado. The Lancers would score their only run off an error in the top of the 2nd inning. But AVC answered in the bottom of the inning when Victoria Alcantar hit a solo home run to left-center field.
AVC added two runs in the 4th inning with an RBI single from Amy Manzo and a run off a Lancer error. Ariel Nieto and Hailey Johnson both hit RBI singles in the 5th inning to go along with another run off an error by Pasadena. Nieto finished 3-for4 with and RBI and three runs. Nayely Delgado finished 2-for-2 with an RBI, while Denise Carrillo had three RBI and a hit.
Along with going 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run, Alcantar picked up her first win of the season in the circle with six strikeouts in four innings of work. Madison Reiser struck out three of four batters faced in one inning in the circle.
AVC will play in a tournament in Glendale this weekend, and then on the road against Moorpark and East LA, before returning home to face Mt. San Antonio College on February 4th at 2:30 pm.
