ORANGE - The Marauder men's volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season after opening the season with an impressive victory against San Diego-Mesa.
The Marauders battled back from a 2-1 deficit to force a fifth set, but in the end Santiago Canyon was able to hold on for a thrilling 29-27, 14-25, 25-22, 23-25, 15-11, victory on Wednesday.
"We just let this one slip through our fingers and hopefully we can learn and get better from it," AVC head coach Mark Cruz said. "They played hard at times, but not the entire match. Hopefully we'll bounce back on Friday and take advantage of our opportunities."
Joey Medina led the Marauders with 55 assists. He also added five kills and five aces. Matt Lee finished with 17 kills and four digs. Kevin Moore was solid for the Marauders as he too added 17 kills and finished with seven aces.
AVC will play Palomar on Friday at 12pm and follow with a 5pm match against Grossmont in San Diego.
