Marauders Open 2019 Season on the road at BC
The Antelope Valley College Track and Field Team made their 2019 debut at Bakersfield College on Friday February 8, 2019. Head Coach Ed Eaton beginning his second campaign at the helm for the Marauders took 24 athletes to compete at the Battle of Regions.
The Women's team was led by Freshman Briann Brazil, and Sophomore Cyan Gutierrez. Brazil, was first overall in both the 100m dash and the 200m dash, she also carried the baton twice on Friday. Gutierrez won the Hammer throw with a mark of 38.78m, a personal record and a tremendous opening to this 2019 season.
The Men's team had several bright spots. Sophomores Cahari Allen and Ivy Calvin showed the Marauders the way; Allen winning the Triple Jump with a mark of 12.85m and Calvin taking 3rd place in the Hammer Throw with a toss of 37.45m. The AVC relay teams were splattered with Freshman. Eight young men ran their first college races in unison and did not disappoint each team placing in the top five overall.
Loads of promise in this young group of student-athletes. They, one and all are looking to equal the success of 2018 State Champion Mariah Theologidy who matriculated to UC Irvine last summer and is competing for the Anteaters in both Cross Country and Track.
