ALVAREZ, FRANCO FINISH FIRST, SCHILLING DOMINANT AT VAQUERO INVITATIONAL

GLENDALE - It was a good afternoon for Kyle Schilling and the Marauder men's track and field day, Saturday at Glendale College for the Vaquero Classic Invitational.

Schilling, just as he as been all season, has been the workhorse for the Marauder throws team. Schilling won the shot put and took home a couple of third place finishes in the discus and hammer throw.

Schilling out put Bakersfield College's Dillen Littles with a toss of 46-04.00 as Littles was second at 45-05.00. He finished third in the hammer behind teammate Ryan Alvarez, who won the event. Alvarez finished with a throw of 149-08 and Schilling threw 144-10. Schilling (136-08) finished behind Littles (137-09) and winner Jovann Letuli (159-00) of Cuyamaca College.

"I'm feeling pretty good about everything. I think everything is starting to click at the right time for me," Schilling said. "It's a major step for me from last year. Last year I struggled in several meets. All the hard work is paying of for me this year. Of course the main goal is to go on to state and place there. I think I have a really good chance at state in the shot and hammer."

Alec Franco was first in the 3000 meter steeplechase (9:42.80) defeating El Camino College's Solomo Kanehailua who was second in 9:55.98. Both Franco and Kanehailua were the only two runners to break the 10-minute mark.

Bradley Wiggs ran well and finished fourth in the 5000 meter run clocking a time of 15:28.44. Rodrigo Ornelas (Unattached) finished in 15:17.86 and Ethan Walker (College of the Canyons) and Sam Boyle (Ventura College) finished ahead of Wiggs with times of 15:22.61 and 15:23.27 respectively.

Joshua Cummings took the day off from the 200 and 400 and focused more on his finishing speed as he finished fourth in the 100 meter dash. Cummings crossed the line in 11.38 behind Santa Monica College's Gabriel Berkovick (11.03), Glendale's Manuel Delatorre (11.14) and COC's Robert Brennan (11.36).

John Jablonski also threw well for the Marauders. Jablonski finished fourth in the hammer (140-11), sixth in the discus (119-04) and eighth in the shot (39-00.25). Teammate Joshua Fatherree (142-08) was second behind COC's Cole Mears (159-05) in the javelin.
